Version 0.2 - Changelog

I finally got some time to fool around with my High Stakes.
This is still by no means a final version. But I'm inching closer to something complete. If you have feedback on any part of the document please do not hesitate to share it with me.

Here are the changes between the two versions:

1. Game Material Section: To make it easier for players to prepare for the game, I've included a dedicated section that outlines the essentials needed to play.

2. To address some confusion, I have clarified the role of the blackjack mechanic in different conflict situations. While blackjack is primarily used for combat, it can also be applied to other actions like climbing, persuading, or navigating conflicts. We've provided clear guidelines on when and how blackjack is utilized, ensuring players have a comprehensive understanding of its role. This mechanic is now called a Gambit.

3. Visual Enhancements: I've taken your visual suggestions to heart and made several improvements to enhance readability and overall visual appeal:

  • The game title now stands out more, using enlarged text and colcurs to make it more eye-catching.
  • More spacing has been added to the text boxes, creating even margins from the text block to the top and bottom of each box. This helps with readability and prevents the text from touching the lines.
  • Text alignment has been standardized, with most elements left-aligned for consistency.
  • Bold type has been strategically used to make important information stand out. For example, most Mechanics when mentioned in another text box are bold. Subheadings also feature bold type, reinforcing the hierarchy.
  • Bullets have been adjusted to be used only when multiple pieces of information are present. Single-line sections no longer use bullets, resulting in a cleaner and more organized layout.
  • The page layout has been redesigned for better cohesion. The title is now incorporated into the description box.
  • The character creation box now features a background block that matches the width of the intro text block. The text within the character creation box is presented in two columns, ensuring a more organized appearance.
  • The credits link, version note, and author name have been rearranged to prevent a large white space and provide a cleaner look. These elements now fit on one line without compromising readability.

4. Gameplay: I added a new mechanic for acquiring Blood Tokens at the beginning of the game. (previously missing) You now sell the Grim Dealer (aka GM) supernatural weaknesses for your vampire and get 3 BT for each weakness sold.

I still want to include:

  • A lore or gm help section on fleshing out the game and drawing cards (tarot style) to randomly generate plot seeds.
  • Art
  • More cohesive layout
  • Rule changes depending on play tests

I hope these updates and improvements make High Stakes: A Vampire Western TTRPG an enjoyable  experience. I hope you hve fun and a huge thanks to Reddit user TabletopRocks who helped me immensely by providing Feedback to the previous version
